Recommendations for AFTER intravenous sedation

This treatment does not cause secondary effects but a series of steps and instructions must be followed after conscious sedation to ensure that no risks are taken.

Instructions for patients after intravenous sedation:

The use of conscious sedation in dental treatments does not usually lead to any type of problem for the patients or notable side effects beyond a feeling of tiredness typical of the sedative that should disappear with the suspension of the drugs.

However, there are a series of instructions to be followed both preoperatively and postoperatively that serve to minimize the risks of patients who require the use of dental sedation techniques to make the intervention in our clinics in Barcelona more bearable.

These instructions vary depending on the type of dental sedation being administered to the patient. In this case, we explain the indications to follow for treatments with conscious intravenous sedation:

  1. Patients can eat normally on the day of the treatment but must avoid drinking any type of alcoholic beverages.
  2. If patients take regular medications, they can continue to do so unless the dentist or anesthesiologist tells them otherwise.
  3. An adult responsible for accompanying the patient to the dentist visit and also taking the patient home after treatment including conscious sedation. We will have to make sure that the patient has some kind of supervision throughout the day and that we do not leave him alone at any time.
  4. It will be better to avoid using public transport to return home and whenever possible this journey will be made by private vehicle or by taxi. Conscious sedation cannot be provided if there is no assurance that the patient can be accompanied home correctly by a supervisor.
  5. It is advisable to wear comfortable clothes, avoiding very tight sleeves or high heels.
  6. For the rest of the day, the patient will not be able to: drive a car or another vehicle, consume alcohol, operate machinery or kitchen utensils, climb heights, be cared for by other people, make important decisions such as signing documents And others .
  7. Patients who are trying to have a baby, are pregnant or breastfeeding should inform the dentist about this.

Conscious sedation should not cause any problems for the patient, but whenever sedatives are used in a treatment it is important to follow the instructions as indicated to avoid taking any kind of risks.

At CeraRoot CLINIC we will answer any other questions you may have regarding conscious sedation or the instructions you must follow. All with the aim of applying the treatment safely, without discomfort and without the patient suffering any type of distress .
